| Verdict | AirdropBuzz Take |
|---|---|
| Should you join? | Consider it if you enjoy strategy games, understand on-chain transactions, and are comfortable spending ONYX and ETH. This is no longer a free testnet grind. |
| Is an Asphodel airdrop confirmed? | A future community governance token is planned, with a reported majority allocation for active users, but the final SOMA ticker, snapshot, eligibility formula, allocation per player and claim date remain TBA. |
| Is ONYX an airdrop? | No. ONYX is already live on Ethereum and functions as the gameplay, entry-fee and tournament-reward token. |
| Current earning path | Skilled players can compete for ONYX in Festivals. Referrers may also receive a share of the gameplay fees generated by referred players. |
| Main upside | Prologue creates verifiable mainnet activity that may help establish an active-user history for the future Asphodel governance system. |
| Main risk | Players can lose ONYX through entry costs, permanent Taruchi death, Ethereum fees and token-price movement without receiving any future SOMA allocation. |
| Archive decision | Do not archive the page. Remove the expired Sepolia instructions and convert it into a Prologue mainnet and potential SOMA guide. |
| Test Area | Score | Why It Scored This Way |
|---|---|---|
| Product Proof | 9/10 | Prologue is publicly live on Ethereum with on-chain Taruchi, training, duels, Festivals and ONYX rewards. |
| Future User Allocation | 7.5/10 | The project’s current direction reportedly reserves at least 60% of its future governance token for active users, but individual eligibility is unknown. |
| Reward Clarity | 7/10 | Current ONYX tournament rewards are understandable, while the future SOMA conversion, snapshot and claim rules remain unclear. |
| Cost Control | 4.5/10 | Players need real ONYX and ETH. Taruchi minting, rerolls, Festival entries and failed strategies can increase the total cost. |
| Gameplay Accessibility | 6/10 | The wallet flow is manageable, but the autobattler strategy, progression system and permanent-death mechanics create a learning curve. |
| Team & Backers | 7.5/10 | Asphodel is connected to the Kamigotchi studio, which announced a $1.3M seed round involving Seed Club, TempleDAO, Baseline, DCF God and other backers. |
| Timeline | 5/10 | The future governance token is not expected until 2027 or later, and the timeline can still change. |
| Safety & Risk | 6/10 | The game contracts and activity are public, but users face smart-contract, ONYX-price, ETH-gas, permadeath and wallet-signing risks. |
| Overall | 7.2/10 | A live on-chain game with a credible active-user allocation angle, but farming requires real capital, skill and patience. |
Important Update: The Free Asphodel Playtest Has Ended
The original Asphodel campaign described in this article is no longer active. The free Prologue playtest used Sepolia testnet and offered a $3,333 USDC prize pool plus a permanent mainnet item. That testnet campaign has been completed.
Asphodel later launched Prologue on Ethereum mainnet. A separate July 7–28, 2026 launch event offered early-player cosmetics, USDC rewards for the first successful Ascenders and a content competition. That limited launch event has also ended.
Users should no longer visit the old Sepolia faucet or expect the previous USDC prize pool. The current application is available at play.asphodel.io and uses real ONYX and ETH.
What Is Asphodel?
Asphodel is an on-chain gaming world built by the studio behind Kamigotchi. Its first Ethereum mainnet game, Prologue, is a roguelike autobattler where players mint a Taruchi fighter, choose its training path and send it into automated battles.
An autobattler does not let players control every move during combat. Instead, the outcome depends on the fighter’s build, stats, training choices and matchups. A roguelike structure adds high consequences, including the possibility of permanently losing a fighter during elimination events.
Core game state and transactions are recorded on Ethereum. This gives the project a verifiable record of mints, training actions, duels, Festival entries, wins, losses and Ascended characters. However, being fully on-chain does not guarantee profit or future token eligibility.
Founder check: Asphodel continues to operate through a largely pseudonymous team. Lethe, known as @0xl3th3, is publicly associated with the studio, alongside other known contributor handles. The team’s online history and live products provide some accountability, but users do not receive the same transparency as they would from a fully doxxed company.
Is the Asphodel Airdrop Confirmed?
There is no live Asphodel token claim. However, the potential airdrop case is now connected to a proposed governance token commonly referred to as SOMA rather than ONYX.
The project’s current governance direction reportedly assigns at least 60% of the future token supply to active Asphodel ecosystem users. The token is intended to support community ownership and eventual governance over the ecosystem.
This is a stronger signal than a completely unannounced token, but it is not enough to calculate an individual reward. Asphodel has not published a final snapshot, activity multiplier, minimum gameplay requirement, allocation per wallet, anti-Sybil rules, vesting schedule, eligibility checker or claim date.
The SOMA name and ticker may also change before launch. Current information points to a 2027-or-later timeline, so users should not expect a near-term claim.
ONYX Is Live—It Is Not the Future Airdrop
ONYX is already a live Ethereum token used throughout the Asphodel and Kamigotchi economy. Players use it to mint Taruchi, reroll certain starting properties, enter Festivals and receive gameplay rewards.
ONYX previously existed within the wider Kamigotchi economy before moving to Ethereum mainnet. It should not be listed as an unlaunched token or a speculative Asphodel airdrop.
Users must obtain ONYX through the official in-game flow or a verified market before playing. Never buy a token only because its name says ONYX. Multiple unrelated crypto assets use similar names, so verify the Ethereum contract through the Asphodel application and official channels.
How Asphodel Prologue Works
Players begin by connecting a wallet and funding the in-game account with ONYX and a small amount of ETH. The game uses an embedded wallet system to reduce the number of manual wallet confirmations required during normal play.
At the time of review, minting a Taruchi costs approximately 9 ONYX. A player can hold one active Taruchi per wallet. Rerolling the initial fighter may require additional ONYX, so users should avoid repeatedly rerolling before understanding the traits and game strategy.
After completing the tutorial, players train their Taruchi and participate in Duels. Duels help the fighter gain experience and generally require Ethereum gas rather than a large ONYX entry fee.
Festival tournaments become available at higher levels. Festival entries require ONYX and use elimination mechanics. Entry fees are distributed into player reward pools, with the surviving winners receiving ONYX. Exact entry fees, prize amounts and progression requirements can change, so always check the live interface before approving a transaction.
A Taruchi that loses an elimination Festival may die permanently. The player may then need to mint another fighter and rebuild progress. A successful Taruchi can eventually Ascend and become a more permanent on-chain achievement.
Our Experience Reviewing Asphodel
AirdropBuzz Team review status: We reviewed the transition from the Sepolia playtest to the Ethereum mainnet release, the current Prologue application, published gameplay mechanics, ONYX usage, Festival structure, referral model and proposed future governance direction.
We are not describing this as a free airdrop grind. Completing the current route requires real tokens, Ethereum transactions and enough gameplay knowledge to avoid wasting ONYX through unnecessary rerolls or poorly prepared Festival entries.
The old Sepolia faucet screenshot should be removed because the free testnet onboarding route is no longer the current participation method. Replace it with a screenshot of the live Prologue mint, training or Festival interface when available.
Time vs Reward: Is Asphodel Worth It?
Asphodel is worth considering for users who genuinely enjoy strategic on-chain games. It is less suitable for farmers looking for quick social tasks or a predictable points-to-token conversion.
Initial setup and tutorial activity may take around 30–60 minutes. Building a competitive Taruchi, reaching Festival levels and learning the best training combinations can require many sessions.
The current reward path is skill-dependent. Players may earn ONYX by surviving Festivals, but entry fees, Ethereum gas and character losses can exceed their rewards. Treat gameplay spending as entertainment expenditure, not a guaranteed investment.
The longer-term opportunity is establishing an active on-chain history before the proposed governance token launches. Prologue and Kamigotchi activity may matter, but Asphodel has not published an exact scoring system. More spending does not automatically mean a larger future allocation.
Asphodel Referral Rewards
Prologue includes a referral system. Current published terms indicate that referrers can receive a portion of the fees generated by referred players, with a 33% share previously advertised.
The referral relationship may become fixed when the referred player mints their first Taruchi. Users should therefore apply a trusted referral before minting if the live application asks for one.
Referral earnings depend on real fee-generating gameplay. A referral signup by itself may earn nothing. Do not operate duplicate accounts, create fake volume or encourage users to spend beyond their budget.
Risks & Things to Watch
- The old rewards have ended: The Sepolia $3,333 pool and July mainnet launch competition are no longer active.
- Real-money cost: Players need ONYX and ETH. This is not a free testnet campaign.
- Permanent death: A Taruchi eliminated in a Festival may be permanently lost, requiring another paid mint.
- No final SOMA rules: The snapshot, activity score, user tiers, allocation formula, vesting and claim date remain TBA.
- Long token timeline: The future governance token may not launch until 2027 or later.
- Token changes: SOMA is a working name and may change before TGE.
- ONYX price risk: The market value of ONYX can rise or fall while users play.
- Ethereum gas: Mainnet transactions can become more expensive during network congestion.
- Smart-contract risk: Fully on-chain gameplay still depends on contracts, wallet infrastructure and application interfaces.
- Game-economy risk: Entry costs, prize pools and reward formulas can be modified as the game is balanced.
- Pseudonymous team: The founders have established public handles and products, but legal identities are not fully disclosed.
- Regional restrictions: Paid token tournaments or prize-based gameplay may be treated differently across jurisdictions.
- Fake tokens: Verify the correct ONYX Ethereum contract through the official application before buying or approving it.
Play Asphodel Prologue on Ethereum
The free Sepolia campaign has ended, but Prologue is now live on Ethereum mainnet. Review the ONYX costs, permanent-death mechanics and tournament risks before minting a Taruchi. Future SOMA eligibility remains TBA.
Open Asphodel PrologueRisk disclosure: Asphodel Prologue uses real ONYX and ETH. Gameplay can result in token losses, gas costs and permanent character death. A future SOMA allocation is not guaranteed for every player.
Asphodel Airdrop FAQ
Is the Asphodel airdrop confirmed?
Asphodel reportedly plans to allocate a majority of its future governance token to active ecosystem users. However, the final SOMA token, snapshot, individual eligibility rules, claim date and allocation formula are not yet confirmed.
Is ONYX the Asphodel airdrop token?
No. ONYX is already live on Ethereum and is used for Taruchi mints, rerolls, Festival entries and gameplay rewards. It should not be presented as an upcoming airdrop.
What is SOMA?
SOMA is the current working name for Asphodel’s proposed future governance token. It is expected to support community ownership and governance, but the name, ticker and final design may change before launch.
When is the SOMA TGE?
The current expected timeline is 2027 or later. Asphodel has not announced an exact TGE date, snapshot, eligibility checker or claim window.
How much SOMA will go to users?
Current project information reportedly reserves at least 60% of the future token for active Asphodel ecosystem users. The division between Prologue players, Kamigotchi users, contributors and other groups remains TBA.
Did the $3,333 Asphodel campaign end?
Yes. The $3,333 USDC Sepolia playtest campaign has ended. The separate July 2026 mainnet launch rewards and cosmetic event have also completed.
Is Asphodel still free to play?
No. The current Ethereum mainnet game requires real ONYX to mint a Taruchi and may require additional ONYX for rerolls or Festival entries. ETH is also needed for gas.
How much does it cost to mint a Taruchi?
The previously published mainnet mint price was approximately 9 ONYX. Check the live application before funding your wallet because game prices and fees can change.
Can my Taruchi die?
Yes. Prologue uses permanent-death mechanics in its Festival tournaments. A losing Taruchi may be removed permanently, requiring the player to mint and train another fighter.
Can players earn ONYX?
Yes. Skilled players can win ONYX through Festival reward pools. Earnings are not guaranteed and may be lower than minting, entry and gas costs.
Does playing guarantee a SOMA allocation?
No. Playing creates verifiable on-chain activity, but Asphodel has not published the final snapshot or scoring formula. Users should participate because they enjoy the game, not because they expect guaranteed tokens.
What wallet works with Asphodel?
Asphodel supports Ethereum-compatible wallet access and may create an embedded in-game wallet. Use a dedicated gaming wallet and never share its seed phrase.
Should the Asphodel page be archived?
No. The old Sepolia campaign should be marked completed, but the page should be updated to cover the live Prologue mainnet game and potential future SOMA user allocation.
