The AirdropBuzz News Desk reports that Hunter Biden’s $LAPTOP memecoin crashed shortly after launching on Base on Wednesday, September 9, 2026, falling about 98% in its first hour and roughly 99% within three hours. The sharp move matters because the political token opened with thin liquidity, high attention, and a large airdrop plan tied to $TRUMP losses.

$LAPTOP launched on Base, Coinbase’s Ethereum layer-2 network. A layer-2 network is a blockchain built to make Ethereum transactions faster and cheaper. The token began trading at 8:00 a.m. ET, according to Decrypt and The Defiant.

The token briefly hit $190.81 within minutes of launch, according to blockchain intelligence data cited by Decrypt. It later traded near $4.77 around the one-hour mark. By about three hours after launch, The Defiant reported that $LAPTOP traded near $1.90, a fall of about 99.23% from its early trading level on Aerodrome.

A memecoin is a crypto token driven mostly by internet culture, a public figure, or a joke. It usually does not represent ownership in a company or a claim on revenue. The official $LAPTOP website says the token is “created for entertainment and community participation purposes” and does not give holders equity, ownership, or other economic rights.

The official site lists the $LAPTOP contract on Base as 0xB095274743941e953c746F9C228DA9c18Bb6ec29. It also lists a total supply of 1 billion tokens, with 35% unlocked at the token generation event.

The published tokenomics show 30% of supply allocated to founders, 30% tied to predictions, 10% for a day-one airdrop, 10% for a future airdrop, 10% for liquidity, 5% for a foundation treasury, and 5% for charity. The site says full unlock takes 36 months from token generation.

The project’s prediction system is a core part of the token design. The official site says 30% of supply is linked to 30 real-world outcomes. If an outcome happens, the linked tokens are burned, meaning removed from supply. If it does not happen, the tokens are donated to charity.

Before launch, Hunter Biden defended the token in an X post cited by CoinDesk and The Block. He described $LAPTOP as an attempt to reclaim the laptop story and said buyers should not expect him or others to make the token more valuable.

The token also drew pushback before trading began. CoinDesk reported that Kraken deleted a promotional post after criticism from crypto traders. CoinDesk also reported that Base executives said there was no partnership between Base or Coinbase and the $LAPTOP project.

Thin liquidity appears to have made the first move more extreme. Decrypt reported that $LAPTOP’s brief $190.81 peak implied a fully diluted valuation near $144 billion while the liquidity pool held only about $48,000. Fully diluted valuation, or FDV, means the token price multiplied by the total supply.

The collapse also followed a wider pattern seen in political memecoins. $TRUMP, the memecoin linked to President Donald Trump, also fell sharply from its 2025 peak, according to Decrypt and The Defiant. $LAPTOP’s airdrop plan directly references wallets that lost money holding $TRUMP.

Why This Matters

$LAPTOP’s launch shows how fast political memecoins can move when attention is high and liquidity is low. For airdrop participants, the key issue is not only eligibility. It is also market depth, token unlocks, and whether there is enough real demand after the first wave of trading.

The crash also adds pressure on projects tied to public figures to give clear disclosures before launch. The official $LAPTOP site warns that digital assets are volatile and that prices can fall to zero. That warning became central within hours of trading.
